Valganna: nature between legend and history

Valganna, dominated by mounts Poncione and Martica, is distinguished by the presence of the complex of the Benedectine Abbey of Ganna. From here, trails depart around the lake or on the chestnut and beech tree covered mountains. By foot or on horseback it is possible to reach lookout points which open up onto a typically pre-alpine landscape of hills, mountains and lakes. The view from the top of the mountains over the Abbey of Ganna is stunning. The trips to the little chapel of St. Gemolo and to the red stones on the river Margorabbia hark back to the charming legends of Valganna. Famous for its waters and its grottoes with prehistoric settlements (the Cave of the Galleries), Valganna is a region of international trade and has several small businesses linked with tourism and crafts. However these lively enterprises have no impact on the natural environment. Almost the whole of Valganna is part of the Parco dei Campo dei Fiori. In the village of Ghirla, on the lake of the same name, there is a choice of facilities with swimming pools, riding schools, solariums and restaurants.
