Laveno bridge town

ACCOMMODATIONS AT: Laveno Mombello

The town of Laveno lies at the point where the Valcuvia valley meets the shore of Lake Maggiore.

It is the last station of the Ferrovie Nord railway line which comes from Milan. The town hosts a wide port from which the ferries linking the Lombard and the Piedmont shores arrive and depart. It was a naval base during the Austrian period and the fort on the top of the hill is testimony to its importance. For a long time Laveno was famous for its “Italian Pottery Company” which, in 1965 was taken over by “Richard Ginori” from Milan before finally closing down. It is a “bridge” town which aims to welcome the tourist who wants to share with the locals the beauty of Lake Maggiore, its evocative views and the lush green coasts.

Laveno offers a great variety of activities: all main water sports, a well equipped port, ferry and motorboat services, sailing schools, beaches, swimming pools as well as some shipyards. Nowadays Laveno is the ideal destination for pleasant walks: the most charming options are the little port of Reno, the Civic Earthenware Collection in Cerro, Santa Caterina del Sasso in the nearby Leggiuno, and the Sasso del Ferro which can be reached by cable car, from where one can enjoy magnificent view of Lake Maggiore and the Alps.
